Mental health conditions have become topical as a major concern across learning institutions affecting the learners, instructors, and other stakeholders. Stress, anxiety and burnout are inevitable in the competitive academic environment due to the nature of work, performance standards and expectations. The present paper aims to review the various challenges that are experienced by various stakeholders in the academic environment, the stakeholders include students, faculty and the university administration. It also discusses the effects of not addressing mental health and some effective ways to promote mental health friendly campuses. To this end, this paper asserts that mental health should not only be considered in relation to individual well- being but also in relation to the well-being of institutions of learning.
